Polymer Clay Tutorial : more HOW TO ideas for your practice heads and sculpting these sweet little figures.
Several weeks ago we did a tutorial on the wine cork bunny head. Now let’s take this idea a little further and learn how to make polymer clay and cloth figures.
This is a way to take the heads you are making and create something different with them.
This week we are going to add a kitty hoodie and a cloth body to a head on the cork and see what can happen.
You will need for the polymer clay tutorial:
- Some stretch fabric for the costume
- Polymer clay prepared and conditioned
- Your sculpting tools
- Makeup and chalk pastels
- Some 1” washers
You can follow the tutorial on how to condition and mix polymer clay below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIWUIo9rics
You can make the head for this project by following the tutorial below or use the little bunny head you have already made and skip the tutorials on making a hoodie and colouring it (because you already have). https://hellocreativesisters.com/polymer-clay-bunny-head-tutorial-for-beginners
Now using a cured head on a cork we can make the hoodie. There is a how to make the bunny hoodie YouTube video on the post above, but this video below is for HOW to make a polymer clay Kitty Hoodie.
Now that you have made your hoodie you can watch the tutorial below and colour it :
NOW : Download the pattern for the little cloth suit :
Cut and sew the suit with the stretch of the fabric going across the pattern (not up and down, allows for putting the cork through the neck)
I used four washers dropping them down through the neck giving good weight to the bottom of the costume. Now the little cork sits above them and stays uprightl. If the head is heavy and unbalanced you may need to glue one of the washers to the cork bottom with some epoxy glue to help it weight itself down.
NEXT WEEK WE WILL ADD HANDS (paws) AND FINISH THESE LITTLE CHARACTERS.
Have a great week!
