WEEK 3 : FOXIE

Putting it all together … AND A FINAL TALE (TAIL)

This is our final week for creating FOXIE. DIY Polymer Clay and Cloth. We have been learning how to work with polymer clay for figures. The first two weeks are linked below:

week 1 : https://hellocreativesisters.com/polymer-clay-doll-tutorial-for-making-foxie/

week 2 : https://hellocreativesisters.com/polymer-clay-ideas-for-beginners-foxie-week-two/

YOU WILL NEED:

  • Neutral prepared clay SEE how to do this HERE : https://hellocreativesisters.com/how-to-condition-polymer-clay-the-beginning-students-guide
  • Makeup and chalks for colouring
  • Sculpting tools
  • Paint brushes for colouring
  • Sand paper
  • Pins
  • Needle Nose Pliers
  • Your prepared suit and tubes for the arms and legs
  • Pattern for the suit and tubes here:
FOXIE-suit-and-tubes-pattern-1Download
  • Thread and needle to sew
  • Doll pellets to fill Foxie’s body
  • Funnel for putting the pellets in to the body

Now you have what you need for the final work for your DIY Polymer Clay and Cloth FOXIE

The video for making the tail is HERE :

Using your little suit, pin the legs closed so that you can fill the body with pellets to make it sit up. The amount of pellets is up to you, and is a personal, visual decision…the more pellets, the rounder your little fox will be.

Now, you can slip the fox into the suit and see how long the stick needs to be so that when you sew up the neck it is properly inside the suit and not pushing out the other side because it is too long.

Next, we cut the stick off at the right length with needle nose cutting pliers. Sand the bottom of the stick so that it is smooth. If you leave it rough, the stick will damage your garment.

Pin the head in position and adjust the amount of pellets in the body. Once satisfied you can sew the neck by making a gathering stitch around the top of the suit and pulling it tight.

All of these steps are in the video below:

Once you have the body the way you want it you can attach the arms and legs at the shoulders and knees and then use the same gathering stitch we learned for the neck to attach the hands and feet to the little tubes you made.

The final sewing is the tail and this finishes your little FOXIE character.

WELL DONE!!!
